Hilton’s Autopsy Art

April 27th, 2007

Daniel Edwards’ clay sculpture of Paris Hilton’s naked “corpse” is an interactive Public Service Announcement featuring the graphic display of a tiara-wearing, autopsied Paris Hilton with removable innards. It is designed to warn teenagers of the hazards of underage drinking. The sculpture also features Tinkerbell, Hilton’s pet Chihuahua with matching tiara, and debuts in the Williamsburg, Brooklyn neighborhood where prom-goers frequently dine, courtesy of the Capla Kesting Fine Art Gallery.”The Paris Hilton Autopsy” offers a cadaveric nude Paris Hilton, laid out with twisted body and opened abdominal cavity on a coroner’s table, while her cell phone remains in her grip. The ‘unglamorous’ display which includes support material from anti-drunk driving organizations counters “the disturbinglyglamorized trend of Hollywood’s ‘girls gone wild’,” according to gallery director, David Kesting. The tableau, created by Daniel Edwards, reminds potential prom goers that no one is impervious to the pitfalls of drinking. A skewed tiara adorns Paris Hilton’s lifeless head. Kesting, advocating teenagers to experience the Hilton display “hands-on,” said, “Paris’ internal organs, which include her small intestines, and other elements, are removable to assist teens with an empathetic view of drunk driving tragedy from the coroner’s perspective.”

Birkhead Can Leave

April 27th, 2007

A Bahamian court cleared the way for Anna Nicole Smith’s ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead to leave the Bahamas with their infant daughter, rejecting an appeal by Smith’s estranged mother. The judge ruled that a court in the United States would likely have the final say in the custody dispute between Virgie Arthur and Larry Birkhead, who was confirmed as the 7-month-old baby’s father after undergoing DNA testing. Arthur was challenging a judge’s decision to allow Birkhead to leave the Bahamas with the baby. Her attorneys argued that Birkhead might not return as directed for another private hearing in the case on June 8.”I’m happy, because this is nonsense really,” Birkhead said outside the courthouse. Birkhead said he plans to leave for the United States once he corrects Dannielynn’s birth certificate to list him as the father. In refusing to consider Arthur’s application, a three-member appeals panel noted that both she and Birkhead wanted to take the child to the United States.”So what is the problem, what is the fear? The child is going to the States anyhow no matter who gets custody,” Justice Emmanuel Osadebay said. The court also ordered Arthur to pay Birkhead $3,000 in legal costs. Smith’s last companion, Howard K. Stern, who had been listed as the infant’s father, patted Birkhead on the back after the ruling and said he was preparing himself emotionally to hand over custody.”It’s difficult for me, but since paternity tests made it clear that Larry was the father, I knew it was inevitable,” Stern said. “I just want Dannielynn to have a good life, and I’m confident Larry will give it to her.” Stern said he hopes to be involved in the girl’s upbringing but that was up to Birkhead. “I’m not requiring written papers or court orders,” he said. A lawyer for Birkhead, Emerick Knowles, said his client hopes to leave for the United States once he secures a passport for Dannielynn but plans to return for the hearing in June.”He’d be silly not to,” Knowles said. “He has every intention of complying with the law.”

O’Donnell Leaving

April 26th, 2007

Putting an end to rumors, Rosie O’Donnell said she will leave ‘The View’ in June after less than a year of feuds, headlines and higher ratings for ABC. O’Donnell said she and ABC couldn’t agree on a new contract, she wanted one more year, ABC wanted to lock her up for three. So she said she decided to leave, although she will appear occasionally next season for special assignments. O’Donnell made more than $3 million for her season on ‘The View’ and ABC was willing to spend more to keep her, but wanted a three-year deal so it didn’t have to worry about her as a potential competitor. She could easily command her own talk show for much more money. She was making some $30 million a year before ‘The Rosie O’Donnell Show’ shut down in 2002.”It just didn’t work,” she said, “and that’s show biz. But it’s not sad because I loved it here and I love you guys and I’m not going away.’ O’Donnell has helped increase the talk show’s audience by about a half-million a day. But her outspokenness has caused continual controversy, including a nasty name-calling feud with Donald Trump that placed ‘The View’ creator Barbara Walters squarely in the middle.’We have had, to say the least, an interesting year,” Walters said. But she said O’Donnell’s exit is “not my doing or my choice.” Despite all the controversy, or maybe because of it, O’Donnell was good business for ABC. Through mid-April, ‘The View’ has averaged 3.5 million viewers since O’Donnell joined.
